HDFC Bank Diners 10x partner rewards extended

HDFC Bank has just renewed their 10x partner award program till 31 July 2019 (only for 2 weeks). In terms of award partners, there has been a reduction with MakeMyTrip and SOTC being removed. Uber, Swiggy, Big Basket, Tata Cliq, Furlenco, BookMyShow and Treebo are still a part of the program till 31 July 2019. The communication from HDFC is slightly confusing as they seem to be justifying 10x reward partner extension in July on the basis of popular demand. HDFC has been aggressively marketing Diners Black over the past few months and a lot of new users must be really unhappy.  Traffic count on their site must have gone up…

HDFC Bank Diners Club 10x Partner Update

HDFC Bank had given us all a devaluation scare in the first week of June and had then suddenly amended some of the changes making life a bit more easier for us. It seems they are constantly tinkering with their model. While most of us expect changes to be announced near the deadline (like 30 June 2019) for each promotion cycle, they seem to have silently amended their 10x partner list this time.  The first week of June was a devaluation in reward earning rate of 40% (From INR 25,000 on smartbuy to 15,000). Of the two major promotions viz. 10x & Smartbuy, most of us would be earning a…

    HDFC Bank 10x Smartbuy Update

HDFC Bank Smartbuy has been renewed today for a period of 1 month till 30 June 2019. While this is welcome news for all Diners Club & Infinia credit card holders (33% Cashback anyone?), there has been a major devaluation impacting all of us. The earlier limit on Diners Black & Infinia was 25,000 Reward Points per calendar month which has now been devalued to 5,000 for Diners Black (80% devaluation in terms of maximum earning capacity) and 15,000 for Infinia (40% devaluation). While this was expected, the timing does seem a bit surprising with Diners Black being heavily advertised for 10x rewards and smartbuy in our alumni circles. Anyway,…

Debit Cards with no foreign currency transaction fees for Indians

As a frequent traveller based in India, I have often tried to minimise expenditure towards foreign currency transactions fees. The Airports at India are probably the worst place to buy foreign currency with markups in the range of anywhere from 5% to 50% depending on currency. Most Credit and Debit Cards charge anywhere between 2% to 3.5% + Tax. A more cheaper option is to buy foreign currency cash from an authorised dealer who would generally charge a markup of around 1%.   The cheapest option is to buy a forex card from online agencies like www.bookmyforex.com which have an almost NIL markup for most major currencies. However, it still involves…
