Aviserv Arrivals Lounge, Mumbai Terminal 2

Introduction

Aviserv operates the only arrivals lounge at the Mumbai International Airport, Terminal 2. Guests can use these lounges when they have a layover at Mumbai. The lounge has food, massage, shower, cloak room and sleeping facilities and is a great addition to the Mumbai Terminal 2.

Location

The lounge is located at Terminal 2 of the Mumbai International Airport. All International flights and domestic flights (Except most Indigo and Go Air flights) use this terminal. The lounge is located just after baggage collection and customs clearance but inside the terminal just before the exit on Level 2, P6 on the West Side. A lot of cab booking offices are located close to the west end and you will find a Lounge flyer near by. The lounge is not visible directly and its hidden in a corner at the West end of the arrival hall.

Gaining Access

You need to furnish your arrival boarding pass at the counter to gain access to the lounge so please keep that handy. The lounge accepts Priority Pass, Lounge Buddy, Dragon Pass and Lounge Key Cards. The easiest way to access the lounge would be to use the unlimited priority pass access provided by Citi Prestige or American Express Platinum Charge Cards (Review coming soon). You wouldn’t want to waste limited usage Priority Pass cards for domestic access unless this is an international visit for you or you have no plans to travel internationally during the quarter.

Cards accepted at the Lounge

You can also pay cash and gain access to the Lounge. The lounge offers multiple combos as well. You can pay INR 944 to gain access to Meals and Wi-Fi for 3 hours, Meal and Showers cost INR  1,298 and 2 hours of sleeping pods with meal and showers will cost INR 2,212. The sleeping pods are priced a bit steep but it can work out cheaper if you have a very short layover or when the timings don’t really suit check-in/check-out timings at hotels. The full rate card is shown below. Just add 18% GST (Goods & Service Tax of India) to get the final price. Please do note that the Priority Pass allows only Wifi and Meals. Everything else is chargeable for all guests.

The Lounge

As you enter the lounge, you see a small Spa section with partially enclosed cabins on your left. We arrived late in the night and did not see anyone there nor could we find a price list. This part of the lounge probably operates only during the day but a relaxing back massage after a long flight would be a great experience.

Mini Spa Area

The lounge has a small seating area, a small dining area and a small work desk for executives who are working on the run. Don’t expect the lounge to be very big. Arrival lounges even in major airports like London Heathrow, Abu Dhabi etc. are generally small.

The main lounge Area

The meal counter is not very large but is adequate. It has a nice mix of Continental and Indian food. There is a small salad bar, fresh fruit and a soup section for the health conscious as well. You can ask the chef to prepare Roti’s / Parantha. These are not freshly prepared and just heated.

They also have a tea/coffee machine right next to the food counter. I ordered masala tea but it was average.

Unlike other lounges where food and beverages tend to be complimentary, aerated beverages where on a chargeable basis. There are signs clearly mentioning that so please be careful.

Overall, the food was average. I had a light meal containing dal, rice and vegetables as I wanted to avoid a heavy meal and sleep right after reaching home instead of ordering food.

At entry, the staff will request you to keep all your luggage in the luggage racks for easier movement throughout the lounge.

Most international flights arrive and depart from the Mumbai Airport during the night. At this time there is a lot of rush in the lounge and finding a comfortable seat is a bit difficult and we had to make do with the dining area. The work desks were all empty though.

Other Facilities

The sleeping pods in the lounge are located inside. There is complete darkness there. The pods are large enough to lie flat but not extremely wide. There is some space to store a small handbag or a carry on stroller in case you are carrying valuable items

The shower facilities are also good and the bathroom was clean and had some basic amenities.

Overall Impressions

The Aviserv lounge is a welcome addition to the Mumbai Airport. Arrival lounges are great place to unwind and relax during a long layover (when you can’t check in yet) or for those business travellers who don’t have the time to check in to a hotel and need to look dapper for their business meetings. The lounge is a great place to recharge. What do you think?
