Get 33% Cashback on Uber Premier rides using HDFC Bank Credit Cards

Introduction

HDFC Bank had overhauled its 10x reward partners completely in August 2019. Uber was one of the partners which was axed and was a big disappointment to a lot of us. It has become a daily commuting expense for a lot of travellers and OLA is still not unto the mark. HDFC Bank has realised this and reintroduced 10x reward on UBER although with a slight twist.

Promo Details

The 10x rewards on UBER spends are not applicable only to Premier Rides above INR 150. To be honest there is generally a 20% difference in fares between Uber Go and Uber Premier Rides. This effectively converts the 33% Cashback to a 20% Cashback if you prefer the cheapest option. (Assuming Uber Go = INR 200 & Uber Premier = 240, 33% Cashback on 240 = INR 80 which makes it a 20% discount). This offer is only applicable on domestic rides within India. The 10x rewards are also applicable on all HDFC Bank Credit cards except for Corporate and Commercial credit cards. The validity of this offer is till 31 Dec 2019 which is really good.

While 20% is not really great, but its not bad either. Nobody else comes close to the cash back’s offered by HDFC Bank in India and UBER is anyway a recurring expense. Their terms and conditions are a bit cryptic stating that “This offer is made available to Customer/s selected at the discretion of HDFC Bank”. I checked with customer care and they confirmed Uber Premier rides are eligible for 10x rewards. These spends should not be counted towards the 10x rewards cap of 25,000 from Diners partners but I guess this is a grey area currently. (Although the current list after exclusion of PayZapp anyway makes it difficult to earn lots of points). Check out this link for the full details

Conclusion

This is a fantastic offer from HDFC Bank. Its a pity they don’t advertise these very well. An email notification would have been great. Found this accidentally while browsing their SmartBuy section. It seems HDFC Bank has moved into a Diwali mode and has started rolling out offers left right and centre. In short, a really welcome offer from HDFC.

Isn’t purchasing a Uber gift voucher through gftyr using Smartbuy is a better option?
    – you can book any Uber mode that way – Go/Pool/Premier/XL
    – Overrides the constraint of min 150 per transaction since points are credited upfront

      Hi Naveen,

Yes you are right that using uber gift vouchers is a much better option. This article was written when Instant Vouchers via Gyftr was not launched. If i remember correctly, the vouchers were launched in November 2019.

Definitely allows you to use all Uber options and does not restrict you to premier plus over rides the minimum transaction amount requirement.

      Regards
