HDFC Bank Smartbuy & Diners 10x Partner Update
HDFC Bank has renewed the Smartbuy offer for another month till 30 Sep 2019. In addition there are a few changes to the 10x Partners as well. For those of you viewing this for the first time, HDFC Bank Diners club offers the best reward rate of 33% Cashback in India and perhaps across the globe. For those lucky enough to hold the Diners Club credit card, you can earn an incredible INR 40,000 in Cashback per month.
Changes to 10x Partners
The removal of PayZapp has become a major disappointment. Since the previous overhaul of the 10x partners, PayZapp was the only ray of hope for those looking to maximise earnings on 10x partners. I guess a lot of users realised that they can now make their rent payments on PayZapp via RedGiraffe and maximise their 10x earnings. HDC Could have at least clarified that rent payments will not be eligible and left out utility bills. There are only 5 10x partners left now viz. Swiggy / Myntra / Zoomcar / Natures Basket / Bookmyshow. With this list of partners it will be very difficult to maximise earnings. Overall a negative change in our view.
Smartbuy Update
HDFC Bank SmartBuy has been rolled over for another month upto 30 Sep 2019. This is good news and users now also have the option of using RedBus on the SmartBuy website. The 10x partners now are starting to reduce in importance whereas SmartBuy is the only real area where users who spend on Flight / Hotel Tickets or purchase items on Flipkart / Amazon will see value here. Conclusion
Removal of PayZapp completely is definitely a negative. The rollover of Smartbuy is a great positive but will probably not last long or we may see some partners removed in future updates. While we all complain on their program changes (probably because we are so used to it), 33% is too good of an offer and you should make the most of it while it lasts.
