HDFC Diners 10x rewards (33% Cashback) extended till 31 Dec 2019

HDFC Bank has updated its 10x rewards program and extended the same till 31 December 2019. This is a welcome change compared to the monthly extensions we have been seeing for the past few months. The Diners Black 10x partner program is one of the best credit card offers in the country offering an impressive 33% reward ratio.

Changes to 10x partners

There has been a complete overhaul in the 10x partners. Here are the major changes

Partners Removed

    • Uber
    • Big Basket
    • Furlenco
    • Treebo
    • Tata Cliq

This is a complete overhaul as 5 of the original partners have been shelved. The biggest changes in our opinion are removal of Uber and Big Basket which are major spending partners for a majority of the users.

Partners Added

    • Myntra
    • Payzapp
    • Zoomcar
    • Godrej Nature’s Basket

The addition of new partners is not so impressive in our opinion. Mantra is a bit redundant when you already have Flipkart and amazon as a part of the Smartbuy Program. Payzapp is HDFC Bank’s payment app and the terms and conditions surrounding its 10x rewards is not really clear. Will update once we get more clarity on this but I guess its safe to assume Cashback is on bill payments and not money transfer. The earning cap is still retained at INR 25,000 per month. Update on SmartBuy 10x rewards

While the revamp of 10x partners is the big news, HDFC has also extended Smartbuy till 31 August 2019. Smartbuy allows you to earn 10x rewards on Flipkart / Amazon / Flights & Hotel Books upto a maximum cap of INR 15,000 per month on the Diners Black Credit Card.

Conclusion

HDFC has done a great job of removing our fear of 10x being devalued for the time being. However, the devaluation in terms of 10x partner amendments is a bit of dampener to an otherwise excellent program. While the spending cap has been retained at INR 25,000 it seems difficult to max out the spending cap now on a consistent basis. What do you think on this update from HDFC Bank ?
