HDFC Bank Diners 10x partner rewards extended

HDFC Bank has just renewed their 10x partner award program till 31 July 2019 (only for 2 weeks). In terms of award partners, there has been a reduction with MakeMyTrip and SOTC being removed. Uber, Swiggy, Big Basket, Tata Cliq, Furlenco, BookMyShow and Treebo are still a part of the program till 31 July 2019.

The communication from HDFC is slightly confusing as they seem to be justifying 10x reward partner extension in July on the basis of popular demand. HDFC has been aggressively marketing Diners Black over the past few months and a lot of new users must be really unhappy.  Traffic count on their site must have gone up significantly to check for extension of 10x rewards. At least I was checking 3-4 times per day.

There is lack of clarity on 10x rewards eligibility for partner spends between 1  to 17 July. The customer care team also does not have clarity on this currently and have already requested their team to check and update a clarification on their website. In April 2019 spends were not eligible for 10x till the 7th.

They have also confirmed that the 10x partners are being revamped from August.  Fingers crossed and hope the program still remains meaningful. The past four months have been scary with 8 days in April and 17 days in July not eligible for 10x rewards (worst case assumption) plus the devaluation of Smartbuy to 15k points from 25k points.

With so many changes being made by HDFC Bank I often wonder if a devaluation is on the cards. I am increasingly getting scared of this possibility and would advise everyone to avoid hoarding points and redeem when possible. What do you think?
