Luxury Redefined – Oberoi Udaivilas Palace Udaipur, Rajasthan, India

The Oberoi Udaivilas Palace is an ultra luxury property in India. It is simply a cut above the rest and goes above and beyond your expectations. The Udaivilas Palace is located in the city of Udaipur (Also known as the city of lakes) on the banks of Lake Pichola. We spent two whole days at the resort and did not feel the need to step out even one bit.

Check In

We arrived at the hotel after an hour’s journey from the Airport. After a brief security check, we drove towards the main reception area. The security guard opened the door and greeted me by my name. This has never happened before. Maybe we were the last guests to check in but it definitely makes you feel special.

We were welcomed with a traditional Indian tika and then escorted to the reception area. We had a customary welcome drink and the manager of the property soon arrived to meet us and gave us an overview of the beautiful property.

The Rooms

We checked into our premier room with a semi private pool. The rooms are spacious and the rooms are well designed with great attention to detail. The rooms are adorned with traditional Rajasthani artworks and it feels like your own personal palace. A butler is available on call for all your needs.

The standout feature of this room is the semi-private pool. You can easily spend your entire day in the pool. The pool is shared among approximately 4-5 rooms.

There is lush greenery all around and you can also see wildlife like deer from your room or the lounger. Some of the rooms also have great views of lake Pichola as well. We asked our butler to set up our lunch table right next to the pool so that we could soak in the surroundings and have a relaxing meal.

The rooms have a tub as well as a shower area. Toiletries are from Forest Essentials which is an Indian Luxurious Ayurveda brand. The bathrobes in the room were were ultra luxurious and very different from those available in standard hotel chains.

The Spa

The Oberoi Spa offers a wide range of treatments to relax your body and mind. The facilities at the spa are excellent. We really enjoyed our time at the spa. There is another swimming pool right outside the dome shaped Spa. A fully equipped gymnasium is housed at a level below the Spa.

The Palace

The palace is extremely well maintained thanks to the hard work of all the employees there. We are animal lovers and were really delighted to hear that the staff also takes care of the animals nearby. We mostly saw wild pigs and deers and also participated in their feeding which is taken care of by the hotel.

A lot of birds also frequent the property and we got a chance to see a peacock inside the palace grounds. I got really close to this beautiful creature and even managed to take a snap with him.

The hotel is spread over a very large area and there is greenery all around. We spent a lot of time roaming around the property and admiring the natural beauty here.

The Food

Do you love Indian Food ? How about traditional Rajasthani cuisine? Or maybe you would like to stick to western cuisines? The Hotel has 3 restaurants which offer an amazing variety of cuisines for you to sample. I really loved the papad they served in the Indian Fine Dining restaurant “Suryamahal” which are procured specially from Kutch in Gujarat. I appreciated it so much that they gave us two complimentary packets to take home. We mostly had Indian food and it did not disappoint. Really loved the Ker Sangri (A traditional Rajasthani Dish) we had there which was prepared on special request.

Breakfast was a standard affair with both Indian and Continental food on offer. Some of the restaurants also have an outdoor seating area which provides amazing views.

The Staff

The hotel ticks all the right boxes in terms of expectations from a luxurious destination. However, the staff really sets this hotel apart. We have had great experiences with the Oberoi chain. They took great care of us during our stay. Maintaining such a large property requires a lot of hard work and you can see the staff quietly working in the background to make things happen.

Bottom Line

If you are looking for a luxury destination in India, then look no further. This would be the perfect way to start or end a long trip in India. You can easily spend 2 or 3 days in the property without even feeling the need to go out.

We are frequent travellers and were still amazed. This is the best luxury experience we have ever had. You will not be disappointed.
