Hotel Review – Fairfield by Marriott Belitung Indonesia
The Fairfield by Marriott Belitung is a wonderful one year old property on the picturesque island of Belitung located on the east cost of Sumatra Island. The island is known for its stunning beaches and this is the only hotel on the entire island which is associated with an international hotel chain. We also chose this hotel to complete our free Award Night offer on signup from Marriott.
Our Room
We stayed in a deluxe oceanfront room with a balcony providing uninterrupted views of the ocean. The rooms are not grand is size but sufficient for all your needs. The rooms were really clean and the housekeeping staff did a great job throughout our stay. I loved the USB charging ports and international style power sockets which made our travel adapters redundant. The standout feature of the room is the views from the balcony. Sipping a hot tea/coffee in the balcony and watching the ocean was just pure bliss. Wi-Fi was complimentary and worked like a charm throughout the hotel. In room facilities were standard and did not disappoint.
The Hotel
The hotel boasts of an actual pool bar with stools inside the pool. The pool looked amazing and guests were enjoying their time here. The pool was decent in size and even a serious fitness enthusiast would love the area. For the rest of us, well the bar is more than sufficient to destress.
The Hotel has a small market right next to the reception where you can purchase food and drink items. There is a convenience store nearby which we used for purchasing mineral water. The hotel provides two complimentary bottles of water a day.
The Hotel also has a gym. There were two elliptical trainers and two treadmills apart from weights. Would have loved to see a cycling machine which is easier on the joints compared to the other machines.
The Hotel also has complimentary bicycles for guest use. This is a nice touch and you can enjoy seeing the small town at your own pace. The hotel really tries to punch above its weight and ticks all the right boxes
There is a bar in the lobby area which serves great drinks. I absolutely loved their ginger tea and cold coffee. Even their hot coffee were excellent. You can take seats at the balcony overlooking the pool and ocean and enjoy the ocean breeze. It had a calming effect and we spent quite a good time of our stay here.
Food
While we have traveled quite a lot in Asia, the hotel really exceeded our expectations in the food department. Being vegetarians seriously limits our food choices outside India and we were a bit sceptical. I was even more scared after looking at the menu of their restaurant “KAVA”. The F&B team at the hotel quickly came up with alternative options and we even interacted with the chef’s directly.
Chef’s Samuel and Bahtiar delighted us with vegetarian cuisines from both Indonesia and India across breakfast, lunch and dinner. Food management is a big part of vacations for Vegetarians and this hotel excels in that department. It makes your holiday that much more enjoyable as you have one big thing less to worry about.
The breakfast spread was impressive and there were enough options for vegetarians.
The Staff
The staff at the hotel were exceptional throughout our stay. The F&B team led by Akhmal & Calvin made our stay enjoyable. Even the interns at the hotel took great care of us. Our flight was scheduled to depart at 5:30 PM and they even gave us a complimentary late check out till 4 PM.
Bottom Line
The Fairfield by Marriott Belitung is an exceptional property. The Hotel offers stunning views of the beach and the wonderful staff go out of their way to make your stay delightful. If you are planning a trip to Belitung then this hotel is a no brainer. If you are a vegetarian then look no further.
